We featured on ITV News!
We were delighted to feature on ITV news on the 6th of October, sharing our thoughts on the importance of teaching owners first aid for dogs.
90% of owners have no first aid training and 75% don’t know how to give CPR. Our mission is to reduce these numbers in order to save as many lives as possible.
Why should professionals know dog first aid?
Our wonderful trainer, Lucy, gave her thoughts on the importance of dog sitters and walkers having an understanding of what to do in an emergency.
We believe that in the same way that childminders and babysitters vitally need to know how to handle emergencies, those whom we trust with our beloved pets do too.
Pet owners
Furthermore, often owners will be on their own when an emergency occurs. This means they cannot rely on the help of others. Therefore, being able to act quickly and efficiently is of the utmost importance.
Though first aid is not a substitute for veterinary care, it can provide relief for your animal and can help whilst waiting for professional care.
Our free resources
At www.firstaidforpets.net, we offer a range of free resources, including a free choking course as well as free ebooks covering poisoning and emergency first aid.
We also regularly update our blogs with topical advice. This includes subjects ranging from burns to allergies, to road traffic accidents.
Our courses
Alternatively, if you’d prefer more hands-on experience, you can book onto one of our three hour practical courses. These cover care for unconscious dogs as well as common illnesses and injuries.
We award each participant an Emergency First Aid for Dogs certificate, an accompanying first aid manual and pet face shield. This means it’s perfect for dog sitters or walkers wanting a written qualification but also for anyone looking to protect their furry friends.
The courses are held at one of our Balham venues, only a short walk from the station. Please email us emma@firstaidforlife.org.uk for more information.
